Sewa day is held every year all over the world. On this day, different organizations all over the world conduct volunteer work which is beneficial for society surrounding them. This concept/project is inspired from Hindu value of "Sewa"(Selfless volunteer work). 1. FESTIVALS: Sharadiya Navaratra commences on Aśvina Śukla Pratipada, falling on October 16 this year, and culminate in Durga Puja and Dussehra. In the west, particularly in Gujarat, Navratri is celebrated with the famous Garba and Dandiya-Raas dance. The last four days of Sharad Navaratri, in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa and Assam in the east Bharat are celebrated as Durga Puja. Exquisitely crafted and decorated life-size clay idols of the Goddess Durga depicting her slaying the demon Mahishasura are set up in temples and other places. Sharadiya Navaratra is also popular among Bharatiya communities around the world including the UK, Canada and USA.

Kjære leser, Scandinavian Shibir 2012 arrangeres i helgen 31 august til 2nd september 2012 og er en slags leirskole for store og små som organiseres av Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) Norge. Typiske fysiske aktiviteter inkluderer indiske leker, yoga og andre ting ved innspill fra deltakerne (for eksempel niyudh; indisk kampsport Kho-Kho, Kabaddi og meditasjon). Av mentalt utfordrende aktiviteter kan vi by på gruppediskusjoner, korte foredrag, skuespill, sang og quiz. Alle aktiviteter bærer et kulturelt preg og foregår fortløpende, det vil si at man aldri har tid til å kjede seg! Og det beste ved det hele er at både barn og voksne i løpet av disse tre innholdsrike dagene vil få muligheten til å knytte kjennskap til mange nye mennesker. Vi ønsker å sikre optimal deltakelse av ungdom i Shibir denne gangen, da nettopp disse skal videreføre vår rike kultur etter oss. Arrangementet vil gi oss en unik mulighet til å treffes og å tenke på hvordan vi skal jobbe sammen i de skandinaviske landene for å fremme grunnleggende hinduistiske verdier til fordel for samfunnet generelt. Det vil også være et mål å bygge videre på suksessen fra tidligere shibir og ta et steg videre. Det er med stor glede og høye forventninger at jeg ønsker å invitere deg og din familie til Scandinavian Shibir 2012. European Shibir 2012
Dear Shri / Shrimati,
The European Shibir 2012 (shibir is a camp / retreat) will be held in The Netherlands. The proposed programme for the Shibir includes games, yoga and group discussions on various cultural and historical aspects. The Shibir will give us the unique opportunity to come together and think about how to organize the Hindu society spread across the various European countries & to promote the basic Hindu values and build on the success of previous shibirs.
