Certain Hindu festivals are associated with the annual cycle of seasons. Pongal in the South and Sankranti in the North are celebrated to mark the withdrawal of the southeast monsoons as well as the reaping of the harvest. Pongal festivities are spread over several days. Like Deepawali, the advent of Pongal is associated with spring-cleaning and burning of junk, symbolizing the destruction of evil.

Guru Poornima

Guru Purnima / Vandana

The Guru Purnima falls on the fullmoon day of the month of Ashad. It is an auspicious day to adore the Guru.
This festival is also known as Vyas Purnima or Rishi Purnima. Rishi Vyas was a great guru. He is the Rishi who compiled the verses of the four Vedas and wrote it in Sanskrit. He is paid tribute on that day for his laudable effort concerning the compilation of the Vedas, which enlighten the whole mankind.

The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across the world annually on June 21 since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in ancient India.
HSS Norway also celebrates IDY from 2015.

Kishore Kishori Milan

Kishor milan is an activity planned and executed by kishor in the age group 13-20. It takes place approximately bimonthly, either at someones home or in a public location. The purpose is to build the feeling of sangha/unity, and through mentally and physically stimulating activities develop a young generation capable of positive contribution to a sustainable society.

Surya Namaskar Yagna

The annual Suryanamaskar Yagya (Yoga for health, health for humanity yogathon) started from 2009. This is a global initiative designed  to create awareness about Yoga and its advantages in achieving a healthy body, mind and spirit. Suryanamaskar integrates simple Yoga postures with 10 simple steps along with easy breathing techniques, and can provide immense health benefits to both the body and the mind. We conduct daily surya namaskar sessions online so that people can join from their location. We maintain an excel with individual counts of daily Surya namaskar. We have participants from the age of 1.5 years to 65 yrs.This yagya concludes with a samarop even where we perform surya namaskar together. 

Rakshabandhan

Every year HSS celebrates Raksha bandhan. From ancient times the festival of Raksha Bandhan represents the strong bond of love between a brother and sister. In modern times the meaning of this festival has broadened to the society level where we showcase our love towards all those who protect and serve us. These include Paramedics, Fire fighters, Police and Armed services and government officials. Last few years Children made rakhis in shakha and tie to Fire fighters, police and government officials.

A weekend of residential shibir for the entire family. This shibir is for all the age groups from 3 yrs and above. This shibir is full of  engaged activities like games, yoga, exercises, warm-ups, and martial arts, fostering a day brimming with fun and promoting the values of healthy living and community involvement.

Sakhi Milan

 Swami Vivekananda ji said “There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing.”  Taking this thought further in action HSS Norway started a Women friendly online platform  called as “Sakhi Milan” (friends meet up). It is an online monthly event to involve, engage and motivate women in the society. There are fun, games, talks, discussions, intellectual sessions etc.

The first day of the year according to the National Calendar of Bharat (in some parts, the Shalivahana Shaka and in the rest, the Vikrama Samvat – corresponding to the era beginning 78 A.D. and 57 B.C. respectively) is significant both for its historical import and for the advent of bountiful nature. The day falls in the beginning of spring – Vasanta Ritu. It is celebrated across Bharat in different names like, Yugadi, Baisakhi, Gudi padwa, Bihu etc. As a happy and meaningful coincidence, the great founder of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, was also born on this very day of Yugaadi of (1889).

Dusserah, also known as Vijayadashmi, is celebrated on the tenth day, which follows nine days of Durga Pooja, some time in September / October. The Tenth day of the bright half of the lunar month of Ashwin. This is among the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar and comes as the finale of the nine-day festival, Navaraatri. This festival of victory is preceded by worship of Saraswati the Goddess of Learning and of Durgaa the Goddess of Strength, signifying the victory of the forces of righteousness over those of wickedness.

9 days of residential shibir held in 2022 and 2023. Participants from all over Europe participated who were actively engaged in games, yoga, exercises, warm-ups, and martial arts, fostering a day brimming with fun and promoting the values of healthy living and community involvement.

Sewa Day

Sewa Day

To inculcate sewa bhav among the society, HSS Norway does many sewa activities throughout the year. One day is celebrated as sewa day where we do cleaning activities in mandir, beach cleaning etc. Children from age 10 participate very actively.
